a mosquito destroyer that works

 mosquitoes overcome almost all their enemies in course of time . be it repellent creams , incense sticks , smoking machines. except may be the high voltage sparking machine with the uv light .

here is one that is affordable . i bought two pieces last month. and it caught quite a few mosquitoes . from my house which has all the doors and windows  covered by net . in the open area this lamp would electrocute a large number , i am sure. 

keep it on in a dark room and stay away  for some time. if the room is well lit or occupied by humans mosquitoes will have less attraction for this uv lamp inside a high voltage cage.

in the the ad someone , not the shop owner ,  takes the buyer to a corner and asks him  if he is a gambler. for the reason that the buyer listened to the shopkeeper's advice that stabiliser is not necessary for the air conditioner . 

is it legal to release such abrasive advt in public ? isn't it possible for some govt agency to ask v guard to substantiate the rationale ? and make it public ?

the beauty is that it is not the shop keeper but the manufacturer who says stabiliser is not necessary.  basically becoz switch mode power supply is used in these air conditioners . and in almost all modern machines.

solar emergency lamp good

i bought a solar emergency lamp from amazon for about rs 400.
it has a small solar panel on top. led lights and a cap which can be
pulled up to put the light on and pushed back to put it off.

working nice for the last one month or so.
it can charge from mains too. and has a  usb port to charge mobile phones.
i haven't tested these facilities yet.

how long the battery which is surprisingly light weight will last is
the only worry.
yet it is a good try

സ്വാഭാവിക വിപ്ലവത്തിന് മുതലാളികൾ അനിയന്ത്രിതമായി വളരണം, തൊഴിലാളികൾ അനിയന്ത്രിതമായി ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടണം .കേരളത്തിൽ ഇതു രണ്ടും നടന്നില്ല. പക്ഷെ ഒരു മദ്ധ്യവർഗ്ഗം അനിയന്ത്രിതമായി രൂപപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു.

അപ്പോഴേക്കും സോവിയറ്റു യൂണിയൻ ശിഥി ലമായിക്കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. മാർക്സിസ്റ്റു സൈദ്ധാന്തികരും ഇടതുപക്ഷ ബുദ്ധിജീവികളും പ്രതിസന്ധിയിലായി. തീവ്രകമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റുകൾ ഭരണകൂടമർദ്ദനം സഹിക്കാതെ ഭക്തിപ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിലും, സ്ത്രീ ശാക്തീകരണത്തിലും ചേക്കേറി . ഇവരിലെ ബുദ്ധിജീവികളെ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നിലവിള്ള കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റുകളെ ഒതുക്കാനുള്ള വലതുപക്ഷ ഭരണവർഗ്ഗത്തിന്റെ ശ്രമം ഫലിച്ചില്ല.

ഇതൊക്കെയാണെങ്കിലും കേരള ജനത സോഷ്യലിസ്റ്റു സ്വപ്നം കൈയ്യൊഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ കേരളത്തിൽ കൃത്യമായ ഇടവേളകളിൽ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റുസർക്കാർ അധികാരത്തിൽ വരാൻ തുടങ്ങി. പക്ഷെ മദ്ധ്യവർഗ്ഗ സ്വപ്നങ്ങൾ പൂവണിയിക്കാൻ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റുകൾക്ക് പ്രത്യശാസ്ത്രപരമായി കഴിയില്ലല്ലോ!

മദ്ധ്യവർഗ്ഗക്കാർക്ക് ഒരുപാടു പ്രത്യേകതകളുണ്ട് . അവരാണ് സന്മാർഗ്ഗ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ കാവൽക്കാർ. അവർ കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങൾ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യില്ല. മദ്യപിക്കില്ല. വ്യഭിചരിക്കില്ല .മോഷ്ടിക്കില്ല. ഇവർ യുക്തിവാദികളോ ,നിരീശ്വരവാദികളോ ആയിരിക്കില്ല. പ്രശ്നങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നു കഴിവതും ഒഴിഞ്ഞു നില്ക്കും.ജനകീയ സമരങ്ങളിൽ ചേരില്ല. പരസ്യമായി ഏതു പാർട്ടിയിലാണ് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നതെന്നു പറയില്ല. രാഷ്ടീയത്തോട് പൊതുവെ പുച്ഛമായിരിക്കും. ഇവർ മിക്കവാരും നല്ല ഭക്തരായിരിക്കും. പള്ളിയിലോ, അമ്പലത്തിലോ ഭാരവാഹികളാകാൻ ഇവർക്കു മടിയില്ല. അന്ധവിശ്വാസങ്ങലേയും അനാചാരങ്ങളേയും എതിർക്കില്ല. ഇനി അതിനെ എതിർത്തതു കൊണ്ടു വല്ലതും നഷ്ടമായാലോ എന്നു പേടിച്ച് ന്യായീകരിച്ചു സാക്ഷ്യം പറയും. കുട്ടികൾക്ക് ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം കൊടുക്കാൻ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കും . അവർക്കൊരു മെഡിക്കൽ പ്രവേശനം തരപ്പെടാൻ കോഴ കൊടുക്കുന്നതിൽ തെറ്റില്ലെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കും. തങ്ങളുടെ കുട്ടികൾക്കു പ്രവേശനം കിട്ടിക്കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ പിന്നെ അഡ്മിഷനു കോഴ സമ്പ്രദായം പാടില്ലെന്നു വാദിക്കും. ഇതൊക്കെയാണെങ്കിലും ഈ മദ്ധ്യവര്ഗ്ഗം അദ്യം മടിച്ചും പിന്നെപ്പിന്നെ ഒരവകാശം പോലെയും കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങും. . ആദ്യമായി കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങിക്കുന്നവനെ വല്ലാത്ത കുറ്റബോധം ഗ്രസിക്കും. അപ്പോൾ അധികമായി കിട്ടിയ പണം എത്രയും വേഗം ചിലവഴിക്കണമെന്ന ചിന്തിക്കും .ചില ശാരീരിക പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾക്കുല്ല പരിഹാരം എന്ന നിലയിൽ ചില സുഹൃത്തുക്കൾ നിർദ്ദേശിച്ച നിയന്ത്രിത മദ്യപാനത്തിനു ശ്രമിക്കും . പിന്നെ അതു നിയന്ത്രണാതീതമായി വളരും. ഇതിനൊക്കെ ഉള്ള ഒരു പശ്ചാസ്താപം പോലെ എല്ലാ രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരും കള്ളന്മാരും വൃത്തികെട്ടവരും വിവരം കെട്ടവരുമാണെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു സമാധാനിക്കും.. ആരാ മേടിക്കാത്തത് എല്ലാവരും കള്ളന്മാരാ എന്ന് ഇടക്കിടക്കു പറഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കും .

whirlpool again

Whirlpool automatic washing machine is a good cash sink

I purchased a white magic pro 700s in Dec 2008 for about  Rs 10,000/-. At that time it was one of the costliest automatic washing machines available. I fell for the brand name  whirlpool.

PCB of the machine which is the power supply and control unit failed after about 3 years.  I had to replace it paying about  Rs 2800/- . After great efforts.  And a delay of about 15 days.  I tried to lodge a complaint with the  company head quarters  but didn’t  succeed . I think it has no provision to accept complaints from India .  Surprisingly  I found no link to the  India division of the company in the website. Finally I went thru the dealer and got it done. I had posted that story in this blog during that time.

PCB failed again soon.  After working for about a year  or  so. This time again I went thru the dealer and got some concession in the replacement cost.  I do not have this receipt with me.  I have  all other  receipts and  documents with me.

PCB failed again last week .  After working  for about 3 years .  The  replacement  cost this time is Rs 4600/- .

So my advice is go for this great international brand but be prepared to shell out more than its cost in PCB replacement alone in , say, 7 years. The PCB is probably designed that way. To fail in about 3 years or less.  Have a good look at the picture of the attached burnt out PCB .  Printed circuit side of the smaller one blackened almost  entirely .

I had to incur additional expenditure to replace the balancing rods and other minor repairs.  At a cost of around Rs 2000/-.  Which I accept as normal .  

Whirlpool  washing machine is good cash sink. Go for it only if you can afford the recurring repair cost.
